Does information save migrants’ lives?

Information campaigns to discourage young Africans from migrating to Europe have become an increasingly popular policy measure. Similarly, humanitarian organisations promote information hoping to decrease migrants’ vulnerability and saving lives.

But what kind of information do migrants themselves rely on? Whom do they trust and why? Ahlam Chemlali, PhD fellow at GRS, has co-authored this new DIIS report focusing on how West African men and women utilize and select available information when planning their journeys to North Africa and Europe.
